Jeff Beck on the proms last night

Post by Arch Stanton »

How come he looks these days no different than he did in the film Blow Up in 1966 ?

He made a surprise appearance in the middle of a Nigel Kennedy jazz-rock number to play a guitar solo.

Explains why I missed it. When I saw that Mockney wanker was on, I switched off.

He played about 50 minutes of Elgar, then 20 minutes of an electric jazz rock number including Jeff Beck and he finished with an excellent jazz-rock rendition of Hendrix's "Third Stone From the Sun".

Cannot stand Kennedy. Excellent musician, I've no doubt. But I'd rather miss a classical treat than end up seeking help to remove my foot from the innards of the telly.

Shows how in touch I am, never even knew the proms were in session. But Jeff Beck - was he a one hot wonder with 'Hi Ho Silver Lining' - or did he do anything else??? I know he gets mentioned a lot as an iconic figure in music, but the only thing I know him for is the Silver Lining.

Love Is Blue made top 30 in 1968 before that Tally Man at the tail end of 1967 it was written by 10cc member Graham Gouldman.

Jeff Beck is without doubt the finest British guitar player. He failed to find a supergroup a la Blackmore, Page, Claptout, Peter Green but is still the master. His playing on Roger Water's "Amused to Death" is stunning.
