Further to the very interesting replies to my post yesterday re C&E keeping tabs on porn watchers. They presumably share this database with Obscene Publications Units accross the UK and any of us with a police regard already will have a little marker placed on our page on the police national computer. The police already mark peoples entries on the PNC to show if they are drug users, violent or mentally unstable or have links to any organisations that Big Brother does not approve of.
This could have scary consequences. In the event of a porn buyer being falsley accused of rape or any sexual offence the police computer would instantly show this person has an interest in porn (legal porn I mean). This interest in buying porn could be dragged up to try and prejudice a jury. Lets face it most members of the public would believe that watching a Ben Dover movie could lead to the viewer committing a sex crime. Most people incorrectly think porn fans are perverts who are just one step away from rape or child abuse. You may notice that when someone is convicted of a sex crime the media makes a big point in emphasising that the pervert had a huge porn collection. What they fail to mention in thier lurid reports is that a load of decent law abiding citizens also have huge porn collections. I mean when was the last time you saw the headline "MAN WITH HUGE PORN COLLECTION SAVES KIDS FROM BURNING BUILDING"?
Anyone who buys porn could be at a huge disadvantage trying to prove thier innocence if accused of a sexual offence.
Food for thought eh?

I'm sure that various goverment authorities check this site out on a regular basis, but I still believe that if you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to worry about.

Repeating myself....At no time has the State said Pornography is LEGAL in this country...so you go on the list, full stop!.
One assumes the authorities are getting more tolerant, that is correct...but until that day comes when an act of parliament declares...Pornography is OK,watch your step..
The State has very long tentacles and can bring forth other charges not related to Pornography if they wish,if caught!
Since Sept 11th.things are getting tougher all around and more excuses for more clampdowns and more rules.
I repeat again,Pornography is illegal, but it makes good copy.
I rest my case,
TheProf.

I beg to differ Prof. At no time has the State said that pornography IS illegal. One of the reasons is that there is a problem with defining exactly what porno is - it is totally subjective. One man's Rubens could be some old biddies work of the devil. So they used the 'Obscene Publications' act to try and prosecute porno vendors - thankfully without much success, since normal people, the people on the street who make up juries, do not think their is anything wrong with shagging.
Anyhow, the position today is that you can stroll into a sex shop and buy a totally legal video of couples fucking, sucking and more. Now, I'm sure 99% of us could agree that a video of fucking and sucking constitutes a porno movie. So, by that very reasonable definition porn is now legal.

I thought magoo was part of the system (and therefore part of the 'problem').

If you have done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear.
On the other hand if you have raped someone.................

Why 'wrong', Prof?
It's my understanding that R18 videos are perfectly legal to sell and consequently own here in the U.K. You haven't declared what your own definition of pornography is; as an earlier commentator said, the definition can be difficult to make, but it is normal to conclude that any material containing 'fucking and sucking' would be considered porn. You seem to hold the opinion that such videos are not (cannot?) be pornographic, so what is, in your opinion?

Yes ted, I was thinking along similar lines but I couldn't be bothered to post - there's not point arguing sometimes. Some folks will swear the sky is green and you just cannot convince them any differently. I've said this before and I'll say it again - if anyone disagrees with an opinion or statement that I or anyone else makes that's fine, but they should say why. Anyone can just be negative and say, "That's a load of cobblers" but how do we kwon it is if they do not explain why it is? Folks who simply say "Bullshit" usually do not have an answer or particular reason why they take that stance. It's just a vague idea they have in their heads and if you could put them on the witness stand and directly question them about it you would see that in many instances they do not really know who they are, what they are or whether they are coming or going.
