Newly wed woman shot sounds like a robbery that went wrong.

Wrong Island, Steve... it was Antigua... or are all the islands in the West Indies "Jamaica" in your mind?

Most places are dangerous these days Alice.
If going to Jamaica just stay out of downtown Kingston. There are plenty pleasant places in Jamaica.

The best thing that can happen in this case is the man never comes round and dies peacefully in hospital. I somehow get the feeling his life won't be worth living if he recovers, seeing he's likely to be brain damaged.
Why people want to go to 3rd world poverty destinations to lord it up, is lost on me. It's obvious that there are going to be gangs who see you as the rich white man/woman who's fair game for rape/robbery/kidnap.
Apparently kidnapping is the main business on Haiti - although they kidnap locals as well. The lighter your skin the more chance of being a victim, according to a R4 documentary last night. Below the skin colour comes anyone with a job, a house or a car - poverty brings out the animal instinct, although some of these people have never evolved much above the law of the jungle.

3 times as many murders per head of population than New York than on this nasty little island...pathetic how the govt ministers tried to protect their tourism industry rather than condemn this outright..this man was conscious after the event albeit gravely ill so probably already knew his wife's fate.
