WI & brothels

Did anyone see this on CH4 last night?
2 women from the WI looking at brothels in Amsterdam, USA and New Zealand and getting in a petition to make it legal over here to have brothels and to have safe working conditions and contracts for working girls.
I thought the show was excellent and really hope that it gets taken seriously because just the same as in any job, shouldn't safety be a key factor for girls who choose to sell sex?
I saw in the paper how it is legal to sell sex, but its the soliciting and the pimping thats the illegal part so if brothels could be made legal with proper rule enforcement etc. then its got to be a step in the right direction

Yeah was pretty good and we desparately need an overhaul of legislation.
We also need an infrastructure for drug rehabilitation with everything that goes with it, to get those off the streets that do it to fund their habit.
It's called 'the oldest profession' which means it isn't going to go away by making it illegal. What should be done for those that do it, is to make it safe.
Good on the WI !thumbsup!

If the atrocities in and aound Ipswich 18 months or so ago teach us nothing else, then it's that those who work as prostitutes should be nade as asafe as possible. Legalised brothels would involve regular testing for disease, and most importantly would take the women off the streets where they are easy prey for murderous misogynists.
And as Jacques says, the drugs aspect needs to be addressed too. From what I can recall, all of Steve Wright's victims were addicts.

One thing at a time gents.
In a lot of cases the working girls need the drugs to help them even do this line of work.
I cant imagine it being an easy decision to sell ones body for passing trade to just have sex with.
Men should think a bit about this and not from their own biased point of view because they are turned on and need it more.
Put it another way. Could you suck a string of mens dicks in a day and not have issues within yourself about it?
Understand this and you might come some way to understanding why drugs and prostitution walk hand in hand.
Very rarely are girls doing it because they love having random sex with lots of strangers.
Thats why this is not going to be an easy one to endorse for the government. The answer is not that simple.

Er ... no
There are girls doing it in order to fund their habit. Merely illustrating a point that if there was help for them then they wouldn't have a need to do it would they? And then they would be off the streets etc. because they'd have got the help they need.
Nobody is saying that there is a simple answer. But a lot of small steps in the right direction.....
But you're right people should think before they post.

It showed how a common sense approach would be in the best interests of the working girls and the clients.
Unfortunately, This administrations approach is to try and outlaw paying for pleasure (P4P) and is looking at adopting the Swedish model thus forcing it further underground and criminalizing clients.
As per usual with this government they are using scare tactics to justify this position, And are saying this is needed to combat child prostitution and women forced into the sex trade.

One eyed Jack..I feel that there is not a lot of difference between a girl in hard core and on the game. Some will have issues but I reckon most will not. They see sex as a way of making money for themselves. This country is too staid to make brothels legal but the police dont waste time on it these days because there's more important things for them to do.As long as these places are not to in your face they will be given a certain degree of 'blind eye'.I agree with those that feel that properly regulated they would give the girls a degree of protection from the weirdoes out there.

Can some one help me understand this please. Ive always known the above but having just read it in black and white in harmonys post its just struk me as a contradiction surely?
How can prostitution be legalised in this country if its not illegal?
Unless they mean to legalise the buying of sex???!!!

I watched that as well, I thought it was excellent.
It was presented very well and got public opinion across.
The WI taking this issue to task totaly amazed me, but again there is a very big problem with legalising brothels etc, that is
tge government. Idiots that have been born with a silver spoon, never lived in the real world making the decissions.
Harriet Harman has stopped newspapers through means of asorted threats
to licences, the publication of adverts for escorts.
As an escort myself I find her reasoning stupid, she says it will stop human trafficing,! what bollocks
Any exsisting knocking shop that employs trafficked girls will already be known to punters, just as I have my regulars they have thiers, at least with adverts the authorities could keep an eye on them.
I am like any other business, I am registered for tax, and pay accordingly
They are happy to recieve tax off me even though I register my self as an escort.
So lets pressure our local MP's into fighting our corner
love deanna xxxx
