This airs again on BBC1 at 1.05am - 2.35am Wednesday 27th Aug having been on BBC2 a couple of weeks ago. Akii Bua was the first African athlete to win olympic gold at a distance below 800m and in the 72 Olympics he slashed nearly 2 seconds off the world record for the 400m hurdles. He was then caught-up in the madness of Amin's Uganda and a late withdrawal from the 76 games meant that he wasn't able to defend his title which was taken by Edwin Moses.
A fascinating story and a companion piece in its way to the 'Black Power' piece that was justifiably well received it's an obscure story of achievement that deserves a wider audience.

Actually, he lowered the world record by 0.3 sec.
It should be a fascinating programme.
Thanks.
