Big news story, Obama has accepted the nomination as the Democratic presidential candidate. What the f**k is all the fuss about, no way was he going to turn it down.
Wouldn't it have been great fun if he had stood up & said "Fooled you all, you mother f**kers".
I have asked this question before without any sensible replies, can anybody tell me why the British media is so enthusiastic about this whole circus?
Apart from our political leaders & political correspondants who gives a sh*t about it, I know & understand that in International terms it is important but to the great British public it is simply an annoying irrelevance, are the Yanks subjected to mass TV coverage of UK electioneering, of course not.

He gave a great sounding speech ---- only trouble is it was all written by a team of Hollywood-esque script writers and could have been used in a movie. The whole thing is just a big advertising campaign, and a good one as they've managed to fool a lot of people into thinking Obama will wash whiter than McCain. We've heard all this "reach for the sky, follow your dreams, mamma's apple pie" crap before. It just proves you can fool most of the people most of the time. The whole campaign has been nothing more than a soap opera.

Yes ...but dont you think the most worthy rise to the top?At least their system allows a fair few to stand as opposed to our way of doing it with the result we hget the greeat leader that is....er Gordon.

Although you don't really stand a chance unless you're personally wealthy before the race begins. But their system is altogether preferable to the one we have. I think McCain has shot himself in the foot by appointing the Alaskan govenor as running mate, seeing she's a lunatic, pro-life Christian - but then again, so many Americans are the same, unfortunately. On balance I'd vote for Obama if I were American, because despite reservations, he is more human and appears to do normal things.

Well of course his speech was written for him by those who are more proficient in prose. Aan on th emove is going to have to employ somebody to do each task and I think the reason why the media is so keen on this is simply because it is making history.
He will be the first black man to be president of the numero umo corporation of the free world. Dont you think that warrants media obsession???
Its just that one step closer to the world learning to be colour blind that regardless of your colour or gender that you can still be the best man or woman for the job.
If Hilary was still in the running then it would also be a big thing about her because of the obvious fact she is a woman.
At least we beat the americans there with the iron lady eh?

Terry,
I hope that my post did not come across as colour predjudice, far from it, I think that of the candidates standing he is the man for the job & after the last 8 years 'things can only get better' in the States.

I think he's selected a woman as running mate to get the votes that would've gone to Hillary, had she been selected.A purely cynical ploy, with no regard to whether she is fit for that role or not!

Probably but not out of necessity. He's an accomplished writer in his own, er, write:

B217bravo I didnt detect any sense of colour prejudice at all and I would like to think anybody who oipposed Obama didnt do that on the basis of his colour or Hilary because she is a woman
And nor would I expect anyone to vote for him just because he is black though I strongly suspect a lot of that is going on also but really these are important times and we are witnessing history here and it is one of the examples, criticisms aside that makes America the land of opportunity it prides itself on.
I know I have made some harsh criticisms of america within these forums but I would like to stress I do not hate the place. I just dont like the fact Britain is quick to jump when Uncle Sam comes a knocking but can understand to some extent why.
Thanks for correcting me BGAFD admin. Is there a reason why you havent responded to my email sent over a week ago?
