Superstars

Just watched the final of C5s Superstars and had the overwhelming feeling that it was a bit of a fix. After 3 or so events the white team were way ahead and only needed to win one more event to win the series. All of a sudden in the canoeing it all went pear shaped for the white team when Sir Steve Redgrave mysteriously decided to pick 2 team members who hadn't canoed before.Shelley Rudman and Lee Sharpe.Alain Baxter went off first and like the athlete he is proceeded to leave about half a pool's length between him and the opposition.Up steps Lee Sharpe who proves that he is to canoeing what Black Sabbath are to Disco. In the end it went to the gym tests and Kelly Holmes had a 30 second start on the dips to Baxter to win the whole event(after the caneoing fiasco).Baxter won by one dip which was justice really as his team were the better really but it all just smelt a bit.Particularly as Sir Steve(White team captain)Redgrave's role in the whole of the series was almost as a bystander. He mysteriously picked up a knee injury before the long jump on day 1 which was supposed to put him out for the rest of the final.(He recovered overnight)
I know the programme is in the dreaded "Sports Entertainment" category but even so I felt that we had been "had" a bit.
This is not to knock Sir Steve or Kelly and the rest as they are athletes without parallel but even so I felt it was a bit cynical.
