Windows XP Upgrade.

I have recently had my Windows XP Home Service pack upgraded. I did have version 2, however last week it was upgraded to version 3.

The problem was, and I only discovered this today when I did a full scan of my computer, was that when Windows downloaded the software to upgrade my service pack they also included a trojan. !furious! !furious!

My Steganos AVP did detect it and neutralise the bastard. It's a bad situation when a so-called "reputable" company such as Windows can not prevent viruses etc from gaining access to your computer. !furious!

I've had my fill of Windows - bastards! !furious!

How do you know it was a trojan, Trumpy?

I'm guessing it was your steganos that's flagging up some new file that was included in the windows sp3(?), because it doesn't recognise what it is. I suggest reinstalling the windows service pack and then when your steganos flags it as a trojan, again, write down the offending file and googling it. Lots of other steganos users will probably be having the same issue and there may be an update for your anti-virus which fixes the false flagging, or one on the way so you can tell your anti-virus to ignore the offending file.

If it IS a nasty trojan, then googling it will tell you soon enough.

Service Pack 3 from Microsoft will definitely not have a virus in it - it may have arrived at the same time, but not from the MS site.

If you're fed up with Windows, take a trip to your nearest Apple store ;)

I went to the Apple Store and ended up with a kilo of British apples. I used to like Braeburn, but they've genetically engineered all the taste out of them.

I agree.

Assuming you downloaded the SP from the genuine MS site.

Some people do offer MS fixes and service packs on other sites, or via Limewire and so on.

NEVER download a fix (any fix) from one of these sites as you dont know if the service pack or fix has been re-packed to include a virus or other nasty.

Oh dear Mr. Trumperton that must be the most unhappy growling faces in the one post - well done. As the others mention as long as you got it directly from the MS site I very much doubt it had a Trojan included in it and is your Stegasaunas that is merely flagging it up because it is new to them - just hope you haven't neutralised something that windows needs to run erm smoothly.

Get a decent Anti Virus Software - should solve the problem, or even better invest in Vista.

Because when my Steganos did a scan the results showed that it was a trojan. It a long series of letters and numbers followed by .CZA.

My service pack was upgraded automatically by Windows, I didn't specifically go to their site and request an update.

Thanks for your advice Sammikins. !thumbsup!

Thanks DB. !thumbsup!

Steganos quarantine is called the "virus vault".
