at last..public sector spending to be slashed !

In todays papers finally the Tories have said that if they win power they will slash public sector spending......aka public sector wastage.......not by sacking teachers, nurses etc BUT by spending OUR money better......example ...local town halls will suffer by central government axing their grants for silly "new labour" jobs.......i.e. "manager to monitor diversity within local services".......two nhs trust headquarters less than 15 miles apart both paying over ?300K per year for their office building and both employing, not at the point of care, over 5oo people in each !

Anyone who replies and starts on the usual....i.e. nurses out of work...kids who won't be able to read....elderly not be cared for etc etc are either earning from this wastage or do not understand the basic principal that the private sector is not a bottomless pit ! They also don't get it that our kids will have to pay for the last ten years of wastage for many many years to come if something is not done to control spending !

Heres to reducing the UK public sector staff levels to below the population of Norway in the future !!....yes we employ more public sector people than the whole population of that country !!!!!!

!thumbsup!

I remember the 80s and 90s and the tory cuts...cardboard cities and rotting houses and schools..if the tories get back which is likely now we will be heading back to those grim days.

Think Jonone and number 6 sum it up perfectly Von Boy.

I understand perfectly your point some have gone OTT and as usual its the Governments fault, nothing to do with the local authorities or even councils making the appointments, but when the Tories mention slash or cutting costs it raises concerns.

I remember Heseltine in the House of Commons announcing 'cutting costs' in the mining industry which equated to entire communities being destroyed.

The unfortunately reality is that the Tories will get in at the next election and sadly those moaning now are like the rest of us going to learn as hard a lesson.

Just for info Crime has gone up and services have reduced since the Tories gained control of our council nothing has improved.

I would slash public spending and disband the NHS for anyone 18-60, replacing it with an insurance backed scheme. Scrap most of the benefit system and replace it with workfare on a time limited basis, except for the genuine disabled. No benefits whatsoever for having children - if you want them, pay for them. Increase the personal allowance and increase pensions, scrap the council tax and replace it with a local income tax - and don't give anyone housing benefit. Any public spending needs to be limited to public transport and locking up criminals for extended periods.

There is no doubt that the Local Authorities are out of control, just wait until you get next years council tax bill as they will use the cost of fuel and energy as an excuse to hike them right up, only the conservatives will cap them, labour just encourages them !sad!
