Tele-Marketing Calls

I'm on the TPS list, not to receive these - but of late I seem to be starting to get them again for some reason, the perpetrators (Amex, Mori, Halifax) seem to be unaware I'm on the list - or more likely they know, but ring anyway seeing ultimate fines for abuse are far less than the profits they make until they're rumbled.
On the whole subject, whether it be by phone, people at the door, leaflets through the letterbox, unsolicited mail etc. --- I've yet to find anyone who actually likes receiving the stuff. The whole practice should be barred outright.

Strange enough I used to do this (tele-marketing) back in '89-'91 and when I use to see the add in the papers for them I thought it was some big money job. Turned out it was just a part time job for college students and retirees. I started out trying to sell people stuff and then went into tele-research where we called people and played music over the phone for them to rate. It was an experience to say the least and at least I got a date or two from it all.

I seem to have had an increase in these kind of calls. It annoys me that when I pick the phone up it takes them 10 seconds before they say anything. Recently I just question them as to whether Brian or Tim is his real name as I don't think they are that common in India!!!!!

Whoever dishes out 'English' names to India call centre staff must have been having a bad day, as I once received a call;
"Hello, my name is Adolf........"

To minimise these subscribe to
Silent Call Guard
ALSO you can register with silent call guard for free here...
0800 083 1138
Unlike TPS which is for ever, or 5 years according to one website, you have to renew Silent Call Guard every year.
The trouble with TPS is once a company or group has your number they are no longer making a cold call.
Kwik-Fit are deadly. Once they know when you insurance renewal dates are they call for each one.
Every time I ask politely but very firmly to be removed from their database but still get called.

I used to have a home phone line and they called. It got disconnected for a while and then I reconnected with a different number and they called and seeing it would be cheaper not to have a land line (that's what we call home phones here now) I got it disconnected again.

If I pick up the phone to an "08" or "International" call and there is no immediate response I just slam the phone down. The worst thing is when the idiots get through to the answerphone and just go "hello? hello?" for a minute before the penny drops.
I hate it when the imbeciles say they're called "Tony" or "Steve" or something, it insults my intelligence. Last year some indian rang up and told me I was 'speaking to Stuart' - I told him I wasn't speaking to Stuart and that he shouldn't tell lies. Then I put the phone down on the waste-of-breath

I screen all calls through my answer machine, with caller id on. This way I know who's at the other end, and if I don't see a name I know "fuck them"
