There seems to be some confusion on how best to send items (vids) in the post. Here are the facts (I used to work there)
1. "Recorded" post is NOT SECURE against theft OR loss. It is NOT monitored through the system and is handled in EXACTLY the same manner as ordinary post.
2. That is the reason why it is only 60/70 pence.
3. "Special Delivery" post IS SECURE against theft OR loss. It is monitored through the system accross many "points". This is why it is 5 times as expensive as recorded.
4. When it enters the depot in the morning, it is SCANNED so that THEY KNOW it is in the office. If it then fails to reach its intended reipient, it is blatantly obvious thst somebody in the depot (most probably the postie) has stolen it.
5 "Recorded" delivery is NOT monitored in this way and is therefore open to theft by snidey posties.
6. With "Special" you can claim back the full total value of the item (and in some cases, more) you CANNOT claim anything at all with "Recorded" post.
7. "Special" items are GUARUNTEED by 12 noon the FOLLOWING DAY
8. "Recorded" has no time guaruntee at all and can take up to 28 days
Choose wisely!!!

Re: HOW THE POST/ROYAL MAIL WORKS
You can't 'unsign' the OSA........I'm still bound by it, even though I left the PO in the 80s.
Not that any of the above is classified.

Re: HOW THE POST/ROYAL MAIL WORKS
It is (or was) a precondition of PO employment that you sign an abridged from of the Act.

Re: HOW THE POST/ROYAL MAIL WORKS
All this is surely what everyone knows, the Post is crap, Postman Pat has been retired, and anybody who has something to send which they need to be securely delivered uses Business Post or some other courier.
I had 3 trannies (not men with skirts on) lost by special delivery Mr Postman thank you, and the payment I got was paltry considering the value I would have got at publication.
Lesson learned, either send via courier or non Consignia, as we all have learned over the past few years, the minority of post type persons are reliable and trustworthy but the majority are underpaid, brainless, lazy arses.

Re: HOW THE POST/ROYAL MAIL WORKS
It still is, and it will be very interesting to see if that prevails when the PO, like most other 'public' utilities, is privatised.
