I remember this well, back in 1971, Smokin Joe Frazier v Muhammad Ali or was it Cassius Clay !wink!

Great fight, but this is their first meeting that took place in Madison Square Garden, New York. The Thrilla in Manila was their third meeting in 1975.
I think he'd been accepted by most as Muhammad Ali by then, but some like Floyd Patterson continued to call him Clay.

That was Ernie Terrell who Ali beat before his ban for not going to Vietnam. I'm sure Terrell's other claim to fame is he was married to one of the Supremes.

i can remember getting up in the middle of the night to watch Ali or Cassius as he was then when he fought Sonny Liston in 1964 for the title as it was broadcast live on the telly, its on youtube but it s not a patch on the Frazier fights !wink!
