I was wondering that as the price of oil is the lowest its ever been for years and there is now a glut with tankers storing it at sea if you have noticed any reduction in your fuel bills?

I pay my fuel by direct debit, and even tho I'm mostly in the black, my energy company has slapped another 12 quid a month on my direct debit... apparently there is a lot of this going on as they claim they are short of ready cash... so my advice would be to check your bank statements.

The companies claim they had pre purchased the gas/oil at the higher prices for the winter, so no reductions can be made until after the New Year - and maybe as late as the Spring, the conning bastards. As soon as the market price of gas.oil rises they pass it on almost instantly, although I've never heard them say we bought the next 6 months supply at a low price so we won't be putting your prices up. They are also trying to confuse the issue by bringing the $ rate into it. The truth is they like shoving the prices up, but just won't bring them down until the government brings in legislation to force them.

I sailed on supertankers in the 70's and it was common practice to take cargo in the Persian Gulf ( as we called it then ) and then slowly steam back to Europe. Once the price of oil went up a few cents a barrel, we went flat out to Rotterdam,Fawley and the like to discharge. A few cents a barrel might not seem much, but if you're carrying 250,000 tons of black gold ,it added up to a nice little earner for the oil company.

Having said that, the Labour party have done a piss poor job of getting the regulators to step in on these blatant scammers.

While I'm on the subject of outrage, I'd like to add the High Street banks. Brown bails out the Halifax and RBOS to the tune of umpteen billion because they have been run by a bunch of incompetent toerags who you wouldn't trust a kid's piggy bank with. The Bank of England reduce the interest rate by 2%. So then the Halifax sends me a letter saying that they intend passing on .25% of that 2% cut onto my mortgage rate. So basically I am being taxed by the bank to pay for their bloody incompetence. And when or if, the country ever gets out of this economic mess, my taxes will probably zoom up to pay off the billions that the government has used to bail out the tossers in the first place.
