According to some people in the know, the new Doctor Who will be announced in the BBC1 show tonight around 5.30pm.

Though I'd still love to see Harmony Hex as a companion :)

It could either be a black actor or woman if the news is to be believed. Looks like they`re trying to outdo heroes again as to who can lose the most viewers the fastest

We`ll at least they`ll be able to use the line from Blazing saddles. "The doctor is a n..." Be like the rest of the series, stolen

Or bipolar. Anyway, Tom Baker is still the Doctor.

Yes I atgree, Tom Baker was the quintessential Doctor, and I'm old enough to remember them all.

I was hoping for someone quirky to play the role, such as Alan Davies.

Yes, I never missed an episode from the original series. I'm just not a fan of the overblown Welsh remakes at all. Good scripts and characterization replaced with CGI and never ending cod orchestra music for the 'game console' generation.

Matt who?

Anyway, I saw a photo of him earlier on another forum, and he looks a bit like some public schoolboy "hooray" twat - and about 16.

Looks very much like the Beeb is yet again pandering to the "yoof" market, and I think it's a shocking choice - especially when the likes of Robert Carlyle had been linked to the role.

Have to agree with Johnsix, you can't beat the originals. Up until circa mid Tom Baker that is, when they introduced that robot dog - at which point the show began its steady but inexorable descent into the juvenile pantomime farce of the Sylvester McCoy era.

The first "new" series with Ecclestone was okay, but Tenant is far too wide-eyed and manic for my taste, and I've only been a sporadic viewer these past couple of seasons.

You've got to give this new kid a chance of course - but I just can't see it working at all.

Come back Colin Baker and Bonnie Langford - all is forgiven!!
