As far as I'm aware you can't sell plane tickets to anyone. They are only valid in conjunction with your passport issued in exactly the same name.

The only way to do it would be to get the airline that issued the tickets to change the names to whoever bough them - but that would entail paying a fee. Don't think many people would enter into such a deal, unless they were a friend/relative.

I was once sent back to get my boarding card re-issued because they had spelled my surname incorrectly. With a totally different name they wouldn't allow anyone onto the flight for security reasons.

Yep i think jonny is correct, when ive purchased tickets before they will only normally allow 3 letters to be changed in the name (for spelling mistake reasons).

I think you're right, you can change the name for online tickets - but the fee is ?17.50 per person, each way. So the cost would be ?70 for two people. On top of that they would want any difference if they have increased the price of the flight since the time you booked - this seems a bit of a con, since you've already got the seats reserved, but there's an article here It's from 2007, but I doubt whether they're any fairer now.
