It does appear to be an extraordinaryly crass and insensitive move even for this pontiff.

And in those countries it's not illegal to think it - it's only illegal once you start publically making it known, and only then if the authorities think you're influential enough to persuade others you're right.
Right or wrong, it's a person's right to hold the view the Holocaust never happened, wasn't as severe as claimed or whatever. I've no doubt it took place, although I'm sceptical at the numbers quoted - 6 Million just seems too many and the facilities used would have been hard pressed to carry out this many murders.

Johnny, i've never given a great deal of thought to the logistics and practicalities of genocide.

The only reason I question the 6M is that they would have to have exterminated 33,000 people, 365 days a year for 5 years. It would equate to murdering the entire population of Manchester in 13 days - we couldn't manage that today using the methods they were employing.
We're all brought up never to question the events, because doing so is supposedly anti Semitic and evil, but just think about the numbers and how they managed it. I don't think there's any doubt the holocaust took place, but not in the numbers they would like you to believe - although why they would exaggerate the numbers to such an extent, I'm not too sure.
