Eastenders 1st all black episode in 23 yrs tonight

I watched this tonight and didn't even notice that it was all black. It was just an episode and the characters were just characters. I don't see people in terms of colour - people to me are just people. I looked at the 'entertainment' section that comes up when you hit the read button on the remote control and there is an item on there informing me that tonight's episode was the show's first all black episode since the prgramme began in 1986. Here's what I find interesting: they felt the need to inform people of this fact when I am sure that many people, like myself, wouldn't even have noticed this - they would have just seen the people as people.

Why did the BBC inform people of this in the 'entertainment' section of the 'red button' facility? Surely seeing people as people, and not seeing people in terms of colour, is what we are all supposed to be doing, and most people I think do, and then this bit of information is put out and, once you've read it, you are aware that this was an episode made up exclusively of people who are black - therefore the BBC are shooting themselves in the foot because people will now be aware of colour distinctions in the show - when all people who have a mature, reasoned attitude to modern life do NOT see people in these terms and see people as just people regardless of anything else.

Like I said, I didn't even notice the show had been all black until I read it afterwards! Now I notice! What do people think about all that I have outlined above?

its taken them 23 years to accurately portray the east end.dont forget the scripts are usually written by some middle class wanker who has never been to the east end.the scripts seem to be along the lines of a happy bunch of real pie and mash loving, knees up muvver brown, jellied eel munching ,roll out the barrel cockneys and the odd brown or black face who are welcomed with open arms into the community.white faces down there are as rare as a pork pie at a barmitzvah.i dont see much multiculturalism in places like whitechapel, bethnal, custom house, newham, just wholesale bangla invasion and other areas where you would swear you were in Africa

I guess thats the sum of the black movements progress. An all black edition of east enders.

Ok.

I bet all the blacks speak concise clear english and no urban dialect or patois because east Enders is a real reflection of black culture....NOT!

Still, its a step in the right direction I suppose.

Nah, it`ll be a step in the right direction when its not an issue of whether its an all black or white anything. Mind you I`d rather have just a black screen than any episode of eastenders

Sadly yes they do, there probably was a time when the "Actors" in soaps tried to mirror what they thought was happening in society, now it seems it's the other way round, with the public mirroring what they see the actors doing on the soaps.
Is there anything more ridiculous than a white ,privately educated, degree holding BBC script writer, presuming to think how a bangladeshi shopkeeper should speak, act and behave.

If I had to stomach a soap it would be something where the cast was attractive, plenty of sunshine and stories that are equally vacuous....Like er Bay Watch.

Shame that wasnt a soap then

Hey why do I want to watch shows that reflect real life when im actually living in it anyway?

Does anyone actually smile in those shows?

one eye jack, Eastenders is a bit more smiley now than it was. It was so depressing for years, and people got so fed up watching it, that they've brought in some comedy characters now. Like that fat bird Heather.

I'm sorry but why are people getting upset about an epsisode where all the actors are black. They are all fine actors. so use them in a storyline. But who gives a fuck.
My biggest problem with Eastenders is that they have a party in the square every fuckin week.. No ones had a party in the streent since the silver jubilee.
