I would guess he jumped in its way as a form of protest.

I'd put it down to stupidity/suicide - he probably got what he deserved. Jump in front of a plane and you're likely to die.

Well maybe not so much of a protest as an act of lunacy - he probably thought he could make them stop by jumping in the way. After that I would guess he intended to give them a good hiding or wreak some revenge on their machine
