Did anyone see 'The Business' on Channel 4 last night? One of the best gangster movies starring Danny Dyer I have seen.

A great 1980's soundtrack which includes that famous song by 'Frankie Goes To Hollywood' as I've quoted as the title of this thread. I don't condone drug dealing and I wouldn't want to associate with any of the characters in the film in real life, but it did seem very glamourous. To leave the slums of South London behind and set up your operations in the sunshine, nice villas, and clubs of Spain.

Inevitably everything fell apart for them all as the film progressed, and Sammy was one of the nastiest characters I've seen in a movie since that lunatic from 'Reservoir Dogs'. In fact some of the tongue-in-cheek narration of the film was inspired by Tarantino, you could tell. What did other people think of 'The Business'? I've got that 'Frankie Goes To Hollywood' song going in my head right now...

Someone recommended this film to me years ago and I got it on dvd. Soundtrack is awesome and the plot's quite good. I like the way everything falls apart too. Shows that even when everythings going well, there's always some limey git ready to shaft you behind your back. lol

Max, I know everyone is ambivalent but didn't you start a thread titled 'Gangsters, how do they get away with it?' which was disapproving of their activities ? Now it seems if it has a great soundtrack and snappy one liners it's okay ?

Check out a film called 'The Hit' from the 80s with Tim Roth directed by Stephen Frears. Prob a big influence on The Business.

The plot was good, the only bit I didn't get was when you saw that guy's decapitated head on a post, when they went to visit the house of the local Mayor (who was corrupt himself). I think that was one of their two gangs mates who were pushed out of the group, but it was hard to recognise whose head it was. Also, I think decapitation was a bit beyond even what that lot would do. And who had done it? As it was in the Mayor's garden, was it one of the Mayor's people? I found that confusing. Good film otherwise. We forget just how ridiculous the fashions were in the 1980's - white suits, pink suits, and so on!
