4:3 or 16:9 Letterbox Recording Format Question

My miniDV camcorder is 4:3 but I can set cinema mode which simply puts black bands top & bottom.
This of course reduces the active picture area / vertical resolution but plays back full screen with the correct aspect ratio if the TV is set to 16:9 letterbox.
To me 4:3 still to lends it self better to a solo girl than 16:9, also many of the posted sample clips and screen grabs are still 4:3.
So to the producers what format do you now use?
