What would Williams rather ... that we forget it ever happened ? As for Nadine Dorres 'witch hunt' is something of an over reaction but just as McCarthy believed that socialism was Un-American most people believe that the kind of extravagant expenses claims we've seen don't uphold the principle and spirit of 'fair play' which is often praised as a British virtue.

I'm fed up of it all. They [the MPs] have been doing this, all perfectly legally, for decades now. Why the sudden outrage? Could it be because we're coming out of Iraq, Jade's dead and the Beckhams are still out of the country? I mean, I agree that it stinks and they've been taking the piss but it's not important compared to a lot of things.
I like it how the press are dragging it out, a few MPs at a time. They probably knew most of who was claiming what on the first day, but they know that they can sell more papers by drip feeding the public slowly.

Nothing in the Palace of Westminster has ever had much to
do with reality.
This is more a symptom of bad timing; they shouldn't have been
perceived as fattening their arses during a recession.
Remember; Churchill lost a Hell a lot of votes when visiting troops
smoking cigars and having brandy on tap, while most servicemen
were forcibly sober and would have killed just for a puff of a
'Victory V'.
