Air Con??

Just bought a Porable Air Con Unit from Ebay and having problems with it so looking for some thoughts from anybody who has something similar ...
Here is the unit I bought:
now my brother has set it up with the window venting kit and the performance is pretty dire, the ambient air temperature was 30 degrees and I dialled in that I wanted 20 degrees but after 4 and half hours of the unit running at full pelt (compressor & fan) the temperature had only dropped by 3 or 4 degrees. I have tested it again today and it seems to only be capable of dropping the temperature about 1 degree an hour and by a total of 4 or 5 degrees ... is this the norm with these Portable Air Cons or do I have a duff Con Air??
Any thoughts please ...
thanks
crofter.

To be honest at 30 degrees ambient anything less than 15000 btu will struggle to drop the room temp in say, a small bedroom, Fine for spot cooling or being directly in the air flow. Although the dehumidifying helps make it feel more comfortable.

I have a 12000 btu unit and I'm very happy with it. However, I've never tried to get the temperature down to 20 degrees and I doubt it would be capable of doing that. It's been set at 26 degrees almost since I had it a couple of years ago and it reduces to that OK. About a week ago I came in to find the room temperature was touching 30 and I got it down to 26 after a couple of hours at the most. I seem to remember trying lower temps when I first had it, but lower than 26 was a struggle and really took time and I decided I couldn't be bothered with the running noise for hours on end. Besides 26 degrees is OK for me and I don't really need it lower.

Interesting so basically they are not up to much then.
OK fair dos they cool the room fine but they will not lower the temperature to a dialled in setting. Seems strange they even have this feature then??

Well my 12000 btu will lower the temperature to a dialled in setting OK.... if the starting temperature is say 30 and the dialled in setting is say 26. No problem there. It then switches itself off and then back on when necessary to maintain the temperature of 26. Works like a dream.

Couple of hours at the most. Yours takes longer but it's 9000 btu so it would take longer.

Try this- Network Rail [i.e. me] bought a similar but taller
model for 200 of our signal-boxes, and they're pretty much faultless.
You can load with about 3l of water for extra chill, +ice capacity,
and they're as tough as old boots.
