Is Facebook largely pointless?

If you look at what people write on there it's things like "am eating a curry while watching Eastenders", "or got stuck in traffic today, got home an hour late", or "slept-in this morning, have a bit of a headache", or something like "am meeting my friend for lunch today". It seems that people type things on there just because it is there to have things typed on. It has very little purpose and seems to be used similar to how mobile phones are used in the majority of cases - people communicate via them just cos they are there. People using their mobiles to tell their friends "I'm walking down the street" just because it is there. Who else thinks Facebook is largely pointless and people just use it because it is there - and that most comments have little point or purpose?

We're a social animal. It's inevitable that communicating to friends is of primary importance to us, however pointless those communications are.

For instance, you use this site to express your sexual fantasies to Poppy Morgan, even in the face of being constantly ignored. Why are your fantasies of more importance than someone telling a friend what they had for lunch?

When it comes to death, illness and now social bonding, you're always quick to criticise or dismiss as unimportant until they affect you. When you're worried about your own health (cystoscopy) or your own mundane ramblings (Poppy's labia) then you want people to suddenly take notice or give advice.

Have you ever considered the possibility that you are socially/psychologically inept in some major way?

What I find strange is that there is no limit to how many social 'networking' sites there will be. MySpace was the thing, then Facebook, now Twitter and within a year there will be something else - still largely the same as the othes but with a couple of differnces. There is another one called Bebo but I don't know much about it. Ten years from now there will probably be another 15 of these things, and bizarelly people join ALL of them - just because they are there - when one (if even that) is sufficient to cimmunicate on. People could just text their pals on their phones and that would cover the extent of the interaction with that person that they would need.

So? Like I said: "We're a social animal." Aren't you using this forum to socialise?

Me? I don't use any of the social networking sites (apart from twitter) but I'm not in the least surprised that they're popular.

I chat on here yes, and post topical subjects. I text people, I dont post "I just bought a pair of socks" or "I'm having pasta tonight "anywhere! I am on Facebook but use it with a purpose, not for pointless comments.

The good thing about those social networking sites is that you cant catch swine flu or HIV or nasty stds. so its gotta be good for something.

The whole point of those things is about what you are doing right now. Be great for producers to find out why that no show model didnt turn up.

Even the local councils are on twitter now.

So what are you doing right now Max? Putting a cup of tea to your lips? Poised to tap a message in response to this question?

Sure its daft but if that is what someone is really doing right then then yeah, we wanna know about it

No, you post:

"she has an expression on her face that just makes you so horny when you look at her,"

"I like it when she says in one clip (when she's wearing the nurses uniform) 'what a hard job I've got, wanking all you men off!'."

"Every house in that road are semi's and they are all large and were built in the 19th century by the look of them. All are in good order and all have the street number on, or next to, the door."

"Poppy Morgan dancing and singing on You Tube!!!"

"Poppy enjoys showing off her pussy, and what a beautiful pussy Poppy has."

"I am glad Poppy has chosen to have her pussy look like that."

"She should take plastercasts of her pussy and they should be available to buy! On the box it could say 'Poppy Morgan's pussy - the most beautiful pussy in porn!'"

I could go on......and on........and on.

Sam, you are "...going on and on and on...' Bearing in mind this is a porn forum and we are all obviously porn fans otherwise we wouldnt be here, I don't think it is strange to post things about ones favourie pornstar - like everyone else on here does. As this is a porn forum, comments like those you've listed will get responses and a to-and-fro conversation will begin. All my comments have generated responses, therefore they are not rhetorical but something posted to induce a chat. And they always do. "I'm eating pasta tonight" or "am annoyed that it is raining outside" IS rhetorical and wont get a reply as it is not a statement that will create interest and therefore provoke responses. Those type comments are pointless!

Harold Pinter made a career out of such 'pointless' observations.
