I'll sign it, though I must admit that apologising to Turing might open up a whole can of worms. There must be thousands of other gay people who've been just as ill-treated in the past and they have just as much a right of an apology. I suppose, like the guy in the article says, it's more symbolic than anything else and sends out the right message about prejudice etc.

Without Turing [and von Neumann] we might well have lost the
War.
I agree an aploogy is due to all, but AT deserves special attention.
He was one of the co-mothers of the modern PC.

"For those of us born after 1945, into a Europe which is united, democratic and at peace, it is hard to imagine that our continent was once the theatre of mankind?s darkest hour."
Short memory re former Yugoslavia and elsewhere. Better just to make a sincere statement with regard to Turing and not to get carried away. It's not hard to imagine .. have our worst tendencies been re-engineered/ re-configured ?

The email notification I received of this Statement from the PM had the following footer:
"So on behalf of the British government, and all those who live freely
thanks to Alan?s work I am very proud to say: we?re sorry, you deserved
so much better.
Gordon Brown
