James Murdoch - the nerve of the man!!

Another Murdoch related thread but this one concerns his son. Through nepotism this guy is now the head of Rupert Murdoch's business empire in Europe and will, of course, have a lot of input into who wins the election here next year, and also how deeply into Europe we go over the next few years. He was moaning this week in a speech he made that free and independent journalism is under threat in the UK due to the ever expanding role of the BBC in our society and that the Beeb's plans for expansion into many other areas of media are worrying. This from a man whose father wont even allow the British government to join the Euro and who had more or less decided who we should have here as a government over many years now. There is a small rock in the sea, located 250 miles west of Scotland and which is 27 metres long, called Rockall. The Murdoch family - who are the world's most arrogant people - should be dropped onto Rockall and left there! Do people find all this infuriating? I do.

What an odd post. Murdoch is arrogant because he is against joining the Euro and keeps us out of it? The Government has had 12 years to call a referendum on the Euro but will not because it is clearly the will of the British people to remain out of it, and it knows it would lose any such referendum. Do you not think it would be arrogant of the British Govt to join the Euro against the wishes of the British people then?
As for the BBC, Murdoch is right, its a politically motivated and overblown monster which needs to stand on its own two feet. Why on earth should people pay a medieval levy for the right to own a tv, it may have made sense when the BBC was the only channel available, but personally I may only watch the BBC for a couple of hours a week - why should I pay ?160 a year for that under threat of criminal sanction? And as for its independence, lol, its relentless lecturing on multiculturalism, muslims, gays, etc etc, and its ridiculously biased political reporting suggest otherwise.

I do believe that Murdoch, and his son, are both arrogant individuals - yes. Murdoch Snr said he would only back Blair for PM in 1997 if he promised not to join the Euro. Blair agreed, then The Sun newspaper came out very strongly in favour of Blair. I'm not saying whether joining it would be a good thing or not but the choice isn't really as open to the Govt as it otherwise would be. The Murdoch empire has been so influential on so many political decisions over so many years that it is very wrong of them to complain that the BBC may become too dominant. Their empire of 4 newspapers and a TV network has been far more influential than the BBC could ever be. And lastly, I have no problem with effectively paying an annual tax to pay for the BBC as it means no commercials on the channel. ?3.00 a week for all that you get is very low. Imagine ads all the time and programme promos during shows. I prefer to pay for the BBC than to have it for free if for no other reason than that.

You prefer to pay for the BBC? Prefer suggests you have a choice in the matter, if there was some choice then it would not be a problem.
And I do not believe Murdochs influence is as great as he himself likes to trumpet, when its claimed 'its the Sun what won it' with an election a far more obvious explanation is that the Sun works out who is going to win and then backs them rather than the other way round.
Media control is becoming less and less relevant in political terms as people gain the majority of their information from ther internet, the mainstream papers are shitting themselves over the popularity of political blogs, over torrent sharing, over high speed broadband etc, its free and global, which makes the parochial 2 channel licence fee even more ridiculous.

Oh no they shouldn't be dropped on Rockall. What has Rockall done to deserve them bastards?
They should each be dropped in the middle of the Atlantic chained to a fucking great concrete block.
Murdoch view great support to the BBC

I suspect that there is nothing like an attack on the BBC by a member of the Murdoch family to boost support for the BBC.
It was the Murdoch newspaper, the Sun that vilified the dead and the dying and those supporters who tried to help at Hillsborough.
The Sun also went out of its way to insult all those who suffer with mental problems when they mocked Frank Bruno with the headline "Bonkers Bruno" when he had to be sectioned for his own good. Lets all have a good laugh at people who have breakdowns. Hilarious eh!
It is also worth pointing out that the Murdoch empire has a very sophisticated tax avoidance system which greatly reduces the taxes it pays in the UK whilst at the same time banging on endlessly about "our readers" and how "we care about them".
Personally, I wouldnt wipe my arse on anything coming out of the Murdoch empire.

Murdoch bears no personal or democratically-accountable responsibilty
for his political meddling- and is therefore wholly pernicious.
Remember Hearst?
