YouTube have struck a royalties deal with copyright owners and from today you can watch original music videos on YouTube again. Apparently writers were not getting enough money before - Pete Waterman apparently only earned ?11.00 (just eleven quid) from a Rick Astley song which the BBC claimed this morning had been watched "over 100 million times on YouTube". The BBC have their figures wrong there, nothing has been watched that many times on YouTube, and I am sure a dire astist like him certainly wouldn't have had his video watched that many times! Anyway, copyright owners werent doing very well out of it. Now they will be suitably reimbursed for having their stuff on the site. So the vid's are back from today!

Not sure what Rick rolling is. One thing I would say is that Pete Waterman, who was the puppet-eer for manufactured people like Rick Astley, Kylie, Jason, Big Fun, The Reynolds Girls (my god, I am amazed I remember so many names of the awful acts that he created!) is that he did more to destroy the British music industry than anyone else ever did. To replace live, instrument playing, song-writing artists, with drama school trained dancers who were employed to mime to tapes - and this became the mainstream - was a terrible thing to do. I don't think the UK music scene will ever fully get over what Waterman did to it.
