In the 1980's the trend for rich neurotic celebrities, with too much time on their hands, was to spend every day going on about your weight and then checking into a fat-farm which would cost you about ?1,000 a week. Then in the 1990's and 2000's the trend for these people was/is to go into rehab, and it is also trendy for them to say that they 'have bipolar'. The other contemporay thing of course, if you are a rich popstar or model, who likes media coverage and doesn't have too much going on to keep them busy at present, is to adopt a child from the Third World. So Elton has been trying to do that. I am not sure if I agree with gay couples adopting children anyway, but it would be even stranger in this case because Elton John is 62 and he would probably spend no time with the kid anyway- it would be raised by nannies while he is out playing gigs or dining with his male partner. The Ukranian government has said 'no' - and I think they are right to say no. What do other people think? Should Elton have been allowed to adopt the kid?

At least Madonna had funded an orphanage in Botswana, and showed a bit of commitment to the country. Sir Elton just seemed to swan into the Ukraine and think he could adopt a kid like you'd buy a pair of shoes. A ridiculous idea, even if you discount the fact he's 62, and the Ukraine is a traditional society where the idea of gay marriage is a very long way off indeed.

I have very liberal views about lots of things. Gay parents I do not. That goes for lesbians as well. Especially gay old parents. I'm not even sure about people like Madonna adopting kids and I like her.

Why dont they just put all their cash together and set up a nice big home and employ a lot of qualified staff to bring them up?

These kids are going to have no idea what the real world is living in cossetted suroundings.

Seems oddly like these rich people want human pets to me and there is something that just doesnt sit right about it. On the same hand just because it feels wrong to me makes it wrong to them.

I would like to think in an ideal world that people who adopt from third world countries are doing it because they have big hearts and not to redeem their conciences for being super rich.

A child is for life. Not just for vanity.
