I dont think it is insanity.

The church is just protecting itelf in case the person up the ladder falls off.

If he/she breaks their back and sues the church for 1 million pounds then the cost of a simple climb up a ladder could be very expensive.

If you are going to blame anybody blame the governement (not sure which one) who said lawyers could now offer "no win no fee" in cases.

So now they go looking for "accidents" so they can sue anyone who they think may be responsible.

This is why we all have to be trained now to do the simplest thing. Once we are trained we cannot sue people and say we did not know how to use the ladder, photo copier, lift or whatever.

I don't know how the hell we're going to get the Olympics past the H&S gestapo. Imagine them finding out how the javelin competition is run.

"You want to do WHAT? Throw a sharp object in a stadium full of people? No chance!"

And I will give you an example (heard this on a radio phone in a year or so back).

A lorry driver rang in to say everyone in their company had to be trained how to put their bright yellow jackets on.

The reason was that one of the drivers left his jacket flapping open, and when he got out of the cab one day it caught on the door handle and he fell to the ground and broke his back (he was high off the ground as it was a large lorry).

So he sued the company.

So now everyone is trained how to put their yellow jacket on and do it up. Then they all sign a piece of paper to say they HAVE been trained.

Then, in future, if another one of them chooses to leave their jacket open and break their back the lorry company have a piece of paper saying they were trained so they cannot sue them.

Dont blame the lorry company, blame the lawyers.

Our son is a Commander in the London Fire Brigade.

He and his men are forbidden to change a lightbulb at the station, because they might fall off the chair and hurt themselves - the same men who, five minutes later, might well be climbing up a hundred foot ladder and rescuing people from a burning building.

"But the role faces coming to an end because of advice the Truro Diocesan Guild of Ringers has received from the (HSE) about unsupported ladders."

It seems that it's not the climbing of a ladder that they are worried about, just how it's supported. Easily remedied I should think without the need for a 5 grand auto-winder.

Yeah yo uthink H&S is insane until a slkab of rock hits you on your head and maybe kills you. Then it wont be so insane then.

Prevention is better than cure.

Havent you seen the Final Destination films. I bet H&S officers use that as a good example of how things can go from bad to worse pretty quick with fatal consequences !happy!

No, some h&s is sensible and required, like wearing hard hats and steel capped boots on a building site. What is ridiculous is when they involve themselves in things like wanting a handrail built on the Brecon Beacons for army training exercises.

They had a case awhile back which would have been a criminals charter, they wanted to stop policemen chasing criminals over any object more than 4 feet (I believe, not sure of the exact height) off the ground, until a full risk assesment had been done.

So if you nick something, just hop over the nearest wall, and plod can't follow you. Luckily, that was thrown out.
