High Price of Porn

Nope this isn't a human tradgedy type post but a rant (?) about the horrendously high price of porn dvds and videos in british sex shops. Why are they so bloody expensive here compared to germany and holland? I lived abroad for quite a while, and the price out there was at least 25%/50% lower. I know that your reply will be that you're not billionaires and it costs a lot of money to produce good porn..yada,yada...yawn. We, the consumer want a bit of value (thanks to milcap media for flogging pirate and private h/c mags in news agents for a tenner, 'bout time) and ?50 for a dvd just isn't cricket (three shops in reading, same dvd, same great price..not!)...breath...relax..breath...relax....ah,thats better.
One other thing, slightly o/t...in most german/dutch/canadian video rental stores you can rent such diverse title as rambo 3 to rocco's animal trainer...when are we going to get that freedom at our local blockbusters (yeah..i know what your going to say..we'd all rent them and tape them..:) ) but it would be nice to be treated like a (broadminded) adult in this fair land ;)

How much is a train fare from Reading to London? Less than a tenner, I suspect. Given that R18 DVDs are all ?15-?20 in every sex shop in Soho (ie way cheaper than your quoted Dutch/German prices) it might be worth making the trip, don't you think?

Try addressing your rant to the people who sell the videos/DVDs not the producers.......the retailers are responsible for the high prices.

I'm sure Blockbuster etc would jump at the chance of renting out H/C videos if it were not illegal to do so in this country, once again address your rant to the politicians and law makers responsible for our antiquated laws.....

Please excuse the spelling, just come in from the pub!!!!

Blockbuster does not sell or rent "X-rated" vids in the U.S., or even hard-R stuff.

Try New View, MHA or Oscar One (tho' I'm boycotting the latter as they have let me down) for the odd Puaka/MMV vid.
The problem is that outside London the Sullivan near-monopoly means that prices are artificially inflated by his insatiable greed.
Stick to mail-order if you can't get to London.

And porno on VHS is not cheap in the US. Well at least not for anything worth buying anyway in my experience.

One of the reasons for the high prices of porn in the provinces is simply a question of units sold. Yeah, of course they can do videos and DVD's at ?15-20 in Soho, because it's a tourist area and there is a throng of paying customers come through the doors everyday. So, maybe they could shift 100 units in a day and make ?1,500.00 However, compare that with a small shop in the provinces that may have just a trickle of punters a day and move 5 units. Even in the provinces ?75.00 a day might not be enough to sort out rent, rates, wages, electric, insurance, advertising, etc, etc. Never mind make a profit.

I'll grant that there is a whiff of profiteering going on in some shops with managers simply charging what they think the punters will stand. But there are also economic realities that a lot of us just do not want to face up to.

Indeed, Blockbuster are establishment ass-kissin' corporate cunts. They are much more interested in "the bottom line? and being seen as a family friendly firm than giving their customers any real choice. In common with virtually all big companies and corporations they do not wish to be associated with anything "seedy" Not though any poncy moral principles, but just because they see that as being in their best financial interest and to avoid any controversy

So, register your protest. Next time you're in Blockbuster tell 'em you're not coming in anymore unless they get a decent selection of shagging films that are chock-a-block with bouncin' boobies, throbbing stonkas, hot minges and spurtin' spunk! That'll tell ?em.

It's the shops

I went for a job in one of the unlicensed ones a while back. At the interview I was told nothing has a price, judge what you can get out of the customer and give him a poster or a mag instead of change. Stock was plentiful and as the wage was a basic, plus a take of the till at the end of the week, it was all about squeezing the punter.

The newly licensed shops here sell DVDs for ?45, which is a joke.
