WMV tracking problems

I'm using Vista and when I use the Windows Media Player I'm finding with a lot of larger files I download I can't move the video forward or back, and have to watch the whole thing in linear fashion. None of my settings have changed. I've got particular problems with HD stuff d/l from sites like Videobox. As frustrating as the postal strike.

Anyone know how to get round this and why it's happening?

Cheers for any insights.

Part of the WMV file is corrupt and the index cannot be read correctly, so you are unable to seek in the file, it's nothing to do with your system and is a problem with the file itself. You could try redownloading it again and if you get the same problem then its likely damaged at the host.

You can use a tool like ASFBIN to reconstruct the file, ive used it quite often with really good results.
