Hi,
Interesting story about the number of cautions being issued. Apparently this is going to be covered on Panorama tonight. Based on freedom of information requests to police forces, it would appear that 40,000 cases of assault were dealt with by a caution in England and Wales last year, including 739 charged with grievous bodily harm.

This smacks of downright idiocy for whatever reason - cost or fiddling the crime statistics etc. Jack "Closing the gate after the horse has bolted" Straw has apparently announced a "review" today. Wonder if this has anything to do with the timing of the Panorama program??

Where is Sharia law when you need it? No, I am not being serious before the insults start flying in.

But this seems to totally undermine any vestiges of credibility that the government's attempts to reduce crime might still have.
