Freenet, thoughts?

This sounds like the darkest, shadiest place ever conceived. It's a fascinating article though to suggest that the web as we know it is 500x smaller than this 'freenet'.
Also imagine the piracy and illegal information being passed around, it's amazing to me to think that something like this can operate and be unknown to so many people, unless I'm severely out of the loop.
