No im not talking about Brittany Murphy but the ones you see all over London and elsewhere digging up the roads, John Murphy in fact this one some years back when i was a trucker we use to bring return loads from Charcon products in Derby ie: kerb/pavingstones back to South UK and Murphies yard in N.London was always a regular drop and J.Murphy being the hands on type was often around when i was unloading, the point being with all this racist talk here on the OT forum i can remember pubs displaying the signs stating [No Irish or Gypsies] now i know this post will probably be removed but please read on, and coming from Kent i do know the contribution that gypsies made in the gathering of Fruit ,Vegatables and Hops for very low pay and in extremely poor conditions, likewise i can also remember the Irish lining up at the Elephant and Castle in S.London hoping to be picked by one of Murphies gangers and prepaired to do a hard days graft just to to see them through, so here is another way at looking at things, the food that fed you when you was young so you could grow big and strong was probably harvested by gypsies, the fact that you are now sitting in your nice centrally heated house could be down to John Murphy, somehow i dont begrudge Mr Murphy being one of the richest men in England, even if he was Irish !wink!

A friend of mine came here to England as a young man from Southern Ireland and has worked in the construction industry until he retired several years ago. Though he still visits family in Ireland he has stated that Ireland is the last place he would want to live. England has been good to him and he is happy to be with us.
Let us not forget that the Micks built this country and we owe them a debt.
As someone who has had issues with pikies in the past I find it difficult to believe that the hop pickers of the east end of London whose annual holiday was in the Kent hop fields were pikies.

Rodders, many years ago i also worked in the hop fields in Kent and the workforce was made up of many types of people including Eastenders,Gypsies and local people, communities could double in size for up to six weeks when the hops were being harvested, it was hard but enjoyable work, there would be the odd fallouts but in the main most people got on and formed friendships, one of my jobs back when i was a trucker was to take apples from Kent to the Heinz factory oop North to be processed into baby food, a lot of this fruit was harvested by Gypsies who were paid piecework and had to work like fuck just to scrape a living, these days most of this work is done by Eastern European labour who are guaranteed the minimum wage.
