Is Gonzo Dead

I'm curious to find out if anyone else feels this type of movie format has had it's day. When they first came out they where innovative and quite fresh as opposed to the normal rubbish spewed by US producers. The girls involved in the british gonzo movies in the early days are still to this day the models most people in this forum would still like to see performing,e.g. Loise Hodges, Lynda Leigh, Charmaine Sinclair, Georgette Nealle etc etc and all were stunning. Now however I'm beginning to tire of the new breed of models turning up in movie after movie pretending that it's the first time they've ever done a movie and the same scripted dialogue film after film, it would be OK if these girls actually had the looks and personality of Louise, Lynda etc but they're not in the same class.

Surely it's time for producers to think up some new genre otherwise they run the risk of boring us all to death with their product.

Personally I don't like the gonzo style because, as a viewer, you are quite limited in what you see. Most producers now shoot a mix and it seems to works fine. I think the days are gone when the whole film was gonzo as it makes for pretty boring viewing. The biggest generic criticism aired on this board of porn is that there are too many close ups and not enough wide and full body shots and I guess that sums up the problem with gonzo perfectly for me.

On your second point a major problem in the UK is that there is a limited number of models prepared to do BG and even a newcomer can become very well known inside a few months. I do tire sometimes of seeing the same models over and over again but that's where the dialogue and the overall quality of the production need to shine through to make it stand out from the crowd and turn an average porn flick into a bloody good film.

A perfect example of the above is One Eyed Jacks "Backdoor Raiders". The models in the film are all pretty much established models but it is a fantastic movie never the less as it is very well shot and the atmosphere and dialogue makes it very enjoyable (not to mention some STUNNING models like Linda, Laura and Hannah!!). It is obvious that everyone enjoyed shooting the film and that comes across in end result.

My only criticism of the film goes back to my point above - there is not enough time spent in the build up. The scenes with Tia in the kitchen in that blue dress and then the 3 girls together in the kitchen spring to mind as perfect opportunities to have some really erotic build up before the hard action begins.

Finally, none of the above is meant as a direct criticism of Terry or any of his films. I used Backdoor Raiders as an exmaple as I have just watched it (again!) and it is fresh in my mind - it is a top notch film and I rate it as one of the best porn filsm I have ever seen.

Is porn the genre? Is Gonzo the sub-genre? Gonzo is a sub-genre of porn?

Is it genre or style?

Yes i agree with you Joe, British Adult films needs a higher quality girl. I'm not saying that the girls of today are no good, but, if we are to inject some life back into british porn then we need to start recruiting and shooting some top notch girls.

ie. Really good looking girls, no Tattoos, No piercings, And Real Tits.
