As usual we are the second highest country giving aid to the awful Haiti earth quake......
BUT why are we always a country doing this to always the highest value ???
Do we believe we are more of a world power than we are ??? Do we think we have an open "tax" cheque book to spend on others ???
Other countries that haven't got our "problems", i.e. fighting wars, massive benefit cutural, NHS, public sector pension black holes etc.... they seem to look after their own ???? have they got it right ???
Also I didn't realise that we still give India nearly a third of a billion pounds a year in aid ??? given to a country that is developing a nuclear bomb.....
!hmmm!

I think a disaster of this scale requires the kind of aid we are giving.

It might be that so many other countries are stingy bastards. China has been poking the rest of the world in the chest and boasting of how it will be the dominant power soon. I wonder how much they will give?

I have often thought this aswell.
I would liek to see once in a while the amount of aid other countries in europe and beyond give per year to help out in times of need around the world.
Ok so there is a major diaster going on,am not saying you stick you head in the sand and say and do nothing.
But what do other countries give??
And also why is it always (or at least always seem to be ) this country giving first?
We are only a small island and there is many a time you hear of people being refused treatmeant for cancer for example because there isnt the money.
also you hear how you cant have that new hospital or school or housing for the homless because of no money.
Also you hear of child pverty in this country !!
Hang on...how come we have child poverty? what are they calling poverty?
it seems to me there are countries worse off than us and they dont seem to have these problems.
I also wonder what the u.n gives?
why have the u.n when its this country and a few others always helping.
why have the u.n in that case?
I also wonder why all the countries of the world cant give some money (or those that can) each into a large fund for such like disasters.

Hi
I have no idea where this view of Britain always giving more than other countries comes from.
Are their reports of other countries' governments giving money in the British meda? Very rarely.
Does this mean that other governments hardly ever give any money?
No.
Can someone please provide a link to a few facts to backup their view that we are cascading money around the world whilst everyone else seems to be sitting on their hands, relatively?
In the meantime

Yet the Vatican can hand out 600 million to pay off kids that`ve been fiddled with by priests but they`re doing fuck all now

Thats because Britiain is not skint.
makes sense if you ever hand out money for humanitarian reasons you will only give what you can afford. So it makes sense that britian can afford to give.
Lets not forget that helping out people has its benefits in public relations too.
If you were desperately broke and someone helped you in your hour of need, how grateful would you be for that generosity.
Im probbaly being cynical but there is no such thing as a free lunch.
Countries helping to rebuild Haiti may actually turn it around ferom being this poor and politically hostile environment, plus its how colonies are made.
Am I just being a hard nosed cynic or are we just giving the money away just to help out?
Either way the most important thing is helping those people out. I absolutely hate seeing human suffering on that scale and I commend all those who have flown in to hot spots to help their fellow man.
