I have been having my car scratched. I pretty much know who it is and want to set up a camera to either catch them or deter them.
Looking on the web most of the options seem to be cctv systems that involves hooking up to monitors which would basically be taking a sladgehammer to a nut.
Does anybody know of a camera I could use that I could leave on a windowledge inside of my house pointing at my car overnight. Ideally it would record onto a hard-drive that would only have to hold one nights recording.
Would a basic camcorder do the job?

I would imagine that it would be done soon after pub chucking out time. So, I don't think you will have to sit up all night.

You'll most likely be charged with infringing their privacy. If they're under 18, then you'll be a child pornographer. You might finish up having to pay them compensation.

Better to take the pictures straight to the media, tell them the cops aren't interested, and let them make a stink about it - if they're interested.

How their privacy be infringed if they are snapped commiting a crime?
The gendarmes use enough cameras to record their actions and produce as evidence in court, so what is the difference between them and the ordinary citizen? I would say "Fuckall"
I have a motion sensitive light outside my house with a cctv built in which I installed after some jealous bastard ripped off the badge from my Mercedes. I haven't had any problems since. I have my suspicions who it was and I let it be known to the local "mouth" that I would take action against whoever it was if I found out who it was.
These security lights with cameras aren't all that expensive, though installing them takes a bit of time and effort.
Here, as everywhere it seems, the local gendarmes are replaced with the fucking useless plastic cops, who have fuckall authority and know absolutely fuckall.
As a serving soldier I had more authority than any copper. On duty and in possession of my blue and yellow cards I could arrest anyone on suspicion and in Northern Ireland I could shoot anyone if I believed my life and anyone elses life, that it was my duty to protect was, in danger.
Our cops can do fuckall and they show us daily!!

When I looked out of my window at 2.00 am to see what a noise was outside my property, found out it was my pissed neighbour 'gardening' and filmed the cunt after he went on to damaging my property the Police said I could be charged for harassing him.

IF they are saying they can't be arsed, tell them to put it in writing and if they refuse get your MP to get them to put it in writing.

You won't get it in writing but you will probably get a pissed off Policeman round with a flea still ringing in his ear!

If the MP does fuck all then use the press they are often looking for blood.

Just make sure the steps you take are recorded.
