Abbey Road studios could close!

The world's most famous recording studios could be sold because their owner, EMI, is skint! Wouldnt this be terrible (genuinely). Not only famous for the Beatles having recorded most of their albums there but also Pink Floyd recorded most of the really big albums of the 1970's there and just about everyone else you can think of has recorded there too. Paul McCartney said a while ago that he would be very sad if it ever closed. As he is worth nearly one billion pounds then maybe he will buy the place. It would be very sad if it closed!

Should be preserved as a national monument. The class that has come out of Abbey Road has never been equalled.

If the closure goes ahead, EMI or some other company should open it as a tourist attraction in the same way as Studio B in Nashville.
It is a national monument, both culturally and in terms of the foreign income generated from sales of music recorded there.

Call me cynical, but the reason they have said it will close is that they KNOW the outcry and the subsequent saving of the place with massive donations.
Personally, I'd turn it into a halfway home for nonces on parole, lets see how many tourists will want to take pics of it then!

Apparently Abbey Road studios used to be two semi-detached houses and they were amalgamated, turned into one building, and converted to recording studios. This was in the 1930's I think. As a piece of real estate, considering it is located in the ultra-expensive St Johns Wood area of north London, it would earn EMI a lot of money if they sold it. There seems to be a lot less sentimentality about these things now: the world famous Astoria music venue in central London was recenrtly demolished to make way for a ticket hall for the Crossrail project, a venue that the Beatles, the Stones, Nirvana, U2, and just about everyone else you can think of played at. Paul McCartney is bound to make a comment about the possibility of Abbey Road closing, and when he does it will be listened to and considered, but business is business as far as these large corporations are concerned. As I said above, maybe McCartney will buy it, he could certainly afford it.

I doubt that tight bastard will get his hand in his pocket.

Quote (Macca): "There are a few people who have been associated with the studio for a long time who were talking about mounting some bid to save it. I sympathise with them. I hope they can do something, it'd be great."
Sympathise. A polite way of saying you're not reaching for your own wallet anytime soon.

Tonight it was said that the National Trust may buy it. Even if it costs them ?30m they will make it back many times over as the years progress. If it was turned into a museum there would be queues down the street every day, mainly tourists but Brits aswell, all wanting to see where The Beatles recorded.
