Wayne Bridge

I suspect I am not alone in thinking this Wayne Bridge/John Terry thing is all a bit bizarre.

As far as I was aware, Bridge had already split up with his girlfriend when Terry got involved. So what's the issue here? Did Bridge have her branded as his property and he is angry with Terry for overlooking the branding?

And to give up an England place because of it? And all this Team Bridge crap, that the City players were going in for. It seems to just show how far player pampering/self obsession has gone on in the English game.

I'm trying to imagine what Brian Clough would have said if Bridge had been in his team. "Well young man, since you mention it, myself and Mr. Bridge are having a trip to my local Debenhams this Sunday. They have a range of big girls' blouses there and I'm sure we can find one that fits him". Etc. etc.

We don't know the full details. Maybe the implication is that Terry was an 'ambulance chaser', watched the relationship deteriorate while outwardly seeming supportive to Bridge, perhaps groomed Perroncel in the guise of 'honest John' who only wants the best for everyone, then moved in when the pair had split-up ?

Bellamy's 'nothing surprises me about him' comments suggests he was dishonourable. If so, with friends like JT who needs enemies ?

According to some sources they hadn't formally split when Terry was 'giving her one'. Bridge had moved to Manchester while his girlfriend and son were still in London and this put a little bit of strain on the relationship. Terry was the 'supportive' neighbour.

For the life of me I can't understand why you seem to be having a pop at Bridge. He's done nothing wrong, kept his head down and said almost nothing. He knows the whole affair could affect the moral of the England team, and, as he alluded to, it could split the camp. To give up his -probably only- chance of playing in a world cup so as to avoid possible hostility in the camp, I think, is honourable. The Chelsea fans booing Bridge were classless. He's never slagged off the club and played well when in the team so I can't see why they were hostile to the guy. It seems to me the more twattish Terry becomes, and the more indiscretions he notches up, the louder and more boisterous the support from the Chelsea supporters. It's as if they think they can drown out the obvious issues he has.

For what it's worth, I think it's an unwritten law that you don't shaft your mates' girlfriends, or ex girlfriends just after they've split (or at least wait a while....the bed must have still been warm from Bridge when Terry jumped in).

Let us also not forget that the woman in question is mother to Bridges child and so anything Terry does, which becomes public, affects the kid too.

Like the tabloids we can endlessly speculate about what might or might not have happened. I don't see any point in that.

"For the life of me I can't understand why you seem to be having a pop at Bridge".

Playing for England should be a great honour. Bridge should be a professional. If we all left a role in our professions/jobs because we couldn't stand the sight of someone else in the office, factory floor for whatever reason, musical chairs wouldn't be in it.

What Chelsea supporters think is irrelevant. Terry has always seemed to me to be a brainless yob. Bridge seems self-obsessed to me. But as always we are all entitled to our opinions.

Just imagine even if incredible we win the World Cup and in 10 years time his kid asks him "Why exactly didn't you play again daddy ?"

Absolute prick for giving up England !

Exactly.

Here's a guy who rightly or wrongly feels really angry with Terry. So what does he do with regard to Terry? He hurts himself by refusing to play for England in a World Cup Year. Like I said, gutless!

He hadn't split from his wife proper when JT took his long awaited opportunity to start shagging her after Bridge moved up to Manchester - Terry is a scum bag and bridge won't play on the same side as him, that includes England. Fair play.

We know all that.

That doesn't stop Bridge being a gutless, self-obsessed idiot. What about playing for his country and thinking about something other than himself? If he did that he would come across as much more of a man than he currently does.

Maybe he should phone Terry and ask what else he should do to hurt himself. Throw himself into the Manchester Ship Canal perhaps!

Fair play my arse!

I don't agree, I think Bridge has done the right thing from a squad point of view. He knows that if he goes, there's going to be a split in the camp between mates of Terry and those who think he's a cunt. Maybe they all think Terry is a cunt anyway, but having Bridge around is only going to distract everybody from the business at hand.

Mind you, the way Terry is playing recently he might not be worth his place anyway ;)

Apologies, Ned. I thought we were talking about professional footballers, hugely well paid, who have the honour of playing for their country.

Instead we appear to be talking about 10 year olds in primary school taking sides behind the bike sheds.
