Quite a few utterly stunning and truly lovely girls will happily fling themselves at 24 carat arseholes or guys guaranteed to disappoint. Perhaps they're insecure and pick someone that wont show them up. It's the only explanation I can think of.

Maybe something to do with the assholes' aggression making them appear to be a good provider (competitive) and a good protector of them and their offspring. The flaw in this is that the assholes' aggression is indiscriminate and is very likely to be unleashed on the very people he is supposed to be taking care of.
In the early period of courtship the asshole will also 'play a blinder' and appear caring and charismatic, however this is an act which can only be sustained for a short time, but just long enough for the female to form an attachment and perhaps get impregnated. If he drops his guard and can't help himself from hitting out he'll probably have a 'sob story' prepared along the lines of it being someone's elses's fault. This will tend to make the female feel sympathetic and appeal to her nurturing instincts in the belief that she can 'make things better' and heal him.
These kinds of men are immature and emotionally retarded and often very damaging to others' physical and emotional wellbeing.
