I saw this on the news today, a couple from the UK are looking at the possibility of a 3 month jail sentence for kissing in public. I don't get this, why are the people who arrested them not being done for racism? Surely they ought to bend over backwards and accept every kind of foreign way of doing things that incomers bring in with them - we have to here and are called racist if we don't accept these differnt ways and culture.

It is ok in Europe to snog in public, some Europeans go to Dubai, do the same thing there, and are nicked for it. If I was them I would call for the sacking of several Police Officers, a written apology from the Police Commissioner and a Judge, and a ton of financial compensation. I would then go on every TV show I could calling all the local Dubai people bastards, saying their way of life is disgusting, that the people there are disgusting (whilst wanting to stay there of course) and demand to be treated with massive respect.

It"s their country and ,absurd how some of their laws are,they should be respected,mostly...You would think that a fine or warning would suffice, tho whats to say they do this for the publicity,so people are forewarned-i wouldnt have known it was illegal otherwise...or maybe every visitor should get a list of things like this ,to be avoided,from the foreign office? We ALL know you cant steal a car,but kissing! .......... and the UK USED to have a justice system the envy of the world! When in Rome.Dubai have certain rules,and one should stick to them.In this case it appears that a male UK muslim is involved.After recent UK passport problems,and some similar indiscreet incidents recently,these two seem to be oblivious to what goes on around them.

I agree with " Porn Historian" they are the rules of that country, and anyone visiting that or any other country should have realized this and obeyed them, however stupid they might seem.

If only UK had a set of laid down rules of behaviour which was inforced if broken, this country could well be a better and safer place to live.
But that would be a writen constitution which unforunately we don't have.

I think you should understand what the word racist and racism mean before being quick to use it here. Its nothing to do with the word.

They could have quite easily been a black couple from the UK. Whats the odds it would not been given coverage if it was a black couple from South London?

If the rule applys to their people then people going ther should respect that rule too, hence why you would never see me shagging on a train in Dubai because they would probably have my Jacobs off.

While that's very barbaric, you have two valid choices. You either visit Dubai, and play according to the rules.... or then you can not go. Obviously this was not a valid choice for this couple, and while it's kind of heartbreaking, you simply should know better.

Just because we let people walk all over us in this country is no reason for other countries to comply. They have their rules. We have ours.

We dont have to bend over. We choose to allow it because we are easier going than those countries and I dont see the UK as racist if it had the same rules.
