I have a few sites that hotlink to my site and check them out but lately I have had sites that come up in the browser as "Attack Sites" does anyone know what they are and whether hotlinking to me is doing my site any damage in Google rankings and so on?

So either no-one knows anything about these "attack sites" or perhaps they are running one!

"Attack Sites" means that the site is serving malware that is intended to exploit a hole in a browser and infect the users computer.

Most times this is done by hackers either exploiting
1. An advertisement server, so that ads it serves up are infected
2. Some kind of cms/blog/forum software which has known exploits (usually because the user hasnt patched it to the latest version)
3. via a sql injection attack that has given the hacker passwords that are used elsewhere on the site.
4. a site/server that has poor security and said hacker had been able to alter the html/php/asp files on the server directly. On shared servers (most smaller sites run of these), you can make your code 100% secure, but if the server itself has a security issue, they can still alter your site.

In all cases, they do not damage your google ranking.

This, or simply (once again) a botched up effort by either google or some firefox concoction to act as an internet police and labeling websites as it pleases. Where exactly are you getting this notification?

When a site hotlinks to me the link appears in my stats and I click on them to look at the site in Firefox then this warnng Attack Site appears in the browser.
I wonder if the warning i genuine because 99 per cent of surfers will click off immediately.
