Hi all

I'm having trouble burning DVDs. It gets so far, then collapses saying there is an error writing to.... My operating system is Vista Basic and I'm burning using Nero.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what other software to use?

Have you tried dropping the burning speed. Some manufacturers are a bit optimistic with the write speed they claim. Try dropping it to the next speed down, (ie if your disks are 8x, try burning at 4x)

That worked for me only yesterday.

Could the blank DVD's be the problem either compatibility with the writer drive, a poor batch of a reputable brand or simply low quality?

Too many things could be the issue. Bad media, hardware incompatibility, disk-drive fucked up, dodgy software...

It's just normal data I am trying to burn, vid clips and the such that I am trying to burn.

I am using Verbatim DVD +Rs, which is what was recommended and have been using, with no trouble, up until now.

I myself use Roxio Creator Home 10 which came with my Dell XPS 420
Computer with Visio, I use RED DVD+R ,RW 16x 4.7GB Disc which bought
from Sainsbury 100 for ?12 a bargain buy and I have not problem write
DVD's or CDR.

The speed being to high is common but is usually a factor of your drive (on which the source data is coming from) is too slow or fragmented to be able to provide data at the steady rate required to record it to disc.

Most modern drives had propriatory tech built in to compensate for that though in the form of suspending the write process in using a form of disk buffer held in memory that fills and empties when a dely in reading data occurs but even the buffer can empty quickly if there is a long enough delay.

Try defragging your drive and as others have said reducin the speed of your write (I never use more than 4x since I read an article about the amount of errors that are written when goiing over 4x which has to then be 'hopefully' corrected when the data is read).

Verbatims are fine as I use them all the time and I've never had a problem that was caused by Nero either.

If your data is important it is definately worth enabling the 'verify' option to ensure what you burnt is actually readable.
