In praise of.... Max Tranmere

I have often disagreed with Max.
On certain occasions, mainly on BNP related issues, I suspect, I have been insulting towards Max. I apologise unreservedly for this.
When Max stopped posting on this forum I did notice the difference. So I am pleased to see that he is back posting.
Good on ya, Maximilian!
Cheers

A thread devoted to me. Wow, I'm flattered! lol.
Yes, there did used to be a few BNP related debates going on on this Forum. There haven't been any for a while. Maybe I should start another one: why do people think that the folks of Barking & Dagenham were SO keen on them previously that they voted in 12 BNP councillors, then at this recent Election ejected all 12?
BNP councillors

Well I suspect that they got in originally for the usual reasons. Some members of the white working class hacked off with being overlooked by "New Labour" and generally let down. It was a protest against mainstream political parties.
Why they got rid of the BNP councillors, I think was for the following reasons.
1. Realised that they are a bunch of tossers. e.g. Claire Doncaster.
Three months after being elected she was evicted from her council house for failing to pay ?2,000 of rent arrears. She has failed to turn up to a single meeting of the tenants and residents group in her ward since being elected in May 2006. ?That young lady is doing a disservice to our community,? said chair Darren Rodwell. ?She was elected by residents of this ward to work within this ward. After six months she should have at least had the grace to come and meet the people she represents.?
and Jeffrey Richard Steed
A shining example to his local community, Steed owed Barking and Dagenham council ?1,300 in unpaid council tax at the time he took his seat.
and Tracy Lansdown
Attendance figures for the last quarter show Councillor Lansdown has only managed to find the time to turn up to 38% of council meetings.
and good old Robert John Buckley
Buckley is one of three Barking and Dagenham BNP councillors who were hauled before the courts for rent arrears after their election.
and the wonderful, Ronald Doncaster
Ronald Doncaster. Another shining example of the BNP ?do nothing? councillor, Ronald Doncaster turns up to a mere one third of council meetings. This puts him among the bottom three of the borough?s 51 councillors for attendance.
and not forgetting Sandra Doncaster
Sandra Doncaster. Mother of Claire Doncaster, she too was taken to court for non-payment of council tax. She had not paid for two years and stacked up a debt of ?2,170.34. It was not as though she could not afford it. She and her husband own a hotel in Sandown, on the Isle of Wight. Before becoming a councillor she was twice hauled before the courts for nuisance caused by her dogs, including killing pet cats.
All these activities presumably leave her little time to look after the interests of her ward residents. Turning up to only one third of even the relatively small number of meetings she was required to attend, she costs local people ?1,666 per meeting and has the second worst attendance record of the borough?s 51 councillors.
And so on and so on.
2. People started taking the BNP seriously and there was a concerted leafletting campaign with publicm meetings etc to explain what the BNP are actually about. Secondly Labour MPs like Margaret Hodge started rattling cages about the potential threat from this bunch of idiots.
Cheers

David, you seem to know a lot about this. I couldn't name any of the BNP councillors who had seats in Barking & Dagenham let alone know all this info. I am impressed, although I suspect you may have done a bit of research online prior to typing all of what you typed above. lol.
My theory as to why the BNP lost all 12 in one swoop is becasue of the amateurish-ness, and arrogance, of the BNP's leader Nick Griffin. Most people who vote in their area would want someone from the locality, or at least someone who has lived there for years. Griffin lives in the Wales and is also the MEP for the north-west of England. How on earth could he have been an effective MP for Barking and Dagenham? He would have spent almost no time there at all and he is not familiar with the local area or people.
He just wanted his name in lights and all the glory for himself. He should have got a local person and had he/she stand for the seat there then the locals would have been able to vote for a local who would spend all their time in that place - working for the local people and the region. Griffin is a glory-seeking ego maniac. He proved this by standing personally for that area - when, as I say, he lives hundreds of miles away and will be spending most of his time in Europe working on behalf of the north-west of England!
He is an idiot and he really proved that to people through what he did.
