Electric Blue ?

Post by Deano ! »

Whatever happened to the Electric Blue video series ? Did it get bought by an American outfit and go downhill ? I think some geezer called Vic Marchant started it ( if I remember correctly from an old Men Only Mag ) and I'd like to know what he is doing now. Perhaps he's making a nice cup of tea. But I meant with chicks.

from 'keeping the british end up' by simon sheridan

electric blue started by photographer Adam Cole 1979
'electric blue the movie' in 1981

My comment:
Notable for softcore Traci Lords appearances, the series is a testament to the British liking of being ripped off and girls.
The comedy introduced later is absolutely dire. It is a useful resource of models of the day.

I thought it had stopped at number 56 (correct me if i am wrong)

Electric Blue was the brainchild of public schoolboy ADAM COLE who was a photographer employed by Paul Raymond's CLUB MAGAZINE.
He use to have his pix published under the name Fanny. We were in the Westmoreland Arms in Marble Arch one night playing pool with the likes of Marmalade and Kate Bush and Adam announced he was going to start a mens magazine on video and asked me if I wanted to get involved. To my constant chagrin I said no (at the time I was a creative director in an ad agency all expense accounts and porches.)

Paul Raymond said he was mad and wouldn't back him so Adam went it alone.

The first few floundered and then the four man business flew. Vic Marchant a former porn actor producing, Steve Hughes a lovely happy bloke and friend of Adams marketing the stuff to twenty four territories round the world, and the hardnosed business brain and whose name escapes me for the moment.

Suffice it say, fifty odd programmes later the whole thing was sold off, brand name the lot.

I was involved launching the Electric Blue magazine and launched another with Adam called Cheap Thrills and produced directed and edited some very successful 18R loops called NUDE WIVES IN THE SIZZLING SUBURBS.

Some of these can still be seen on Channel X and elsewhere under Fantasy Chateau and other naff programming. They are 15 years old and that gives you a clue a: who is the best at not paying for material,
and B: who bought Electric Blue.

It was of course our friend Richard Desmond at Northern and Shell.

Adam Cole is a millionaire based in the states who I think runs BABYLON X and other big big web sites. His business partner whose name still evades me went to live in Miami with a Bentley Turbo. Steve Hughes took his Harley Davidson and Renegade Jeep to IBITHA where as far as I know he is still one of the nicest happiest people I have ever met. The last time I heard about Vic Marchant (another nice guy) he had discovered he had a nasty cancer.

Good People working hard, being original and not doing much harm to anyone.

If you want to see me in action check out one of the later tapes during which BOOBWOMAN in the BATTLE OF THE BIMBOS runs me over in the street and knocks me off a window cleaners ladder.

Dont try to find that too hard if I were you!

We could do with some innovators in the business now so lets not knock them. EB really was the soft porn equivalent of the Carry Ons....nothing more nothing less. But hands up if you have ever created something from a blank piece of paper??? If not don't knock it!

Thanks for that great little piece of porn history ! The name Adam Cole comes back to me. I loved the early episodes, but I dont have any tapes left. I loved the way it ( the early series ) was shot - the girls seemed so much more real than the style the yanks were doing back then. One of my favourite eighties babes - Lisa Austin - was in EB 16 I think. Ah memories...

The brains and money man was of course one ginger dynamo called Roger Cooke who if my memory serves me correctly was working at PaulRaymond when he met Adam....they both married a lovely chummy little girl photographer.....Janet.....not at the same time but one after the other.

Another thing of interest about EB was that it really was a cottage industry.....there was a secretary, and a couple of lads who put duplicated films into boxes put the labels in and despatched them.

Then there was a lady down in the Isle of Wight at one stage who used to plan the pages and lay in the copy of the eight magazines including Asian Babes, Big Ones, Cheap Thrills and Electric Blue itself.

At one stage I used to write the fuck and suck, captions, stories, features and readers letters for all eight magazines from an early Amstrad that didn't have a mouse. So much of the erotica punters got off on came from a thatched cottage I had with a swimming pool in the middle of the Ashdown Forest.

It was the house that A.A> Milne had written Winnie the Pooh in and Brian Jones had drowned in the pool of.......so at least I had not been responsible for the worst thing that had happened there!

perhaps you would like to gather up these reminiscences into a single article and have the result posted in the new "blue remembered hills" section, in the miscellany. this it just the sort of remembrance of things past we hope to have archived therein. porn historians of the future will thank you for it!

I will endeavour to do that soonest, and add some more anecdotes, like how many people know that Louise Hodges used to be a magician's assistant and only got involved in porn to wind the rabbit puller up...as he was always trying to get in her pants. I of course was only too happy to help......it would have been very nice to saw her in half....but I was always the perfect gentleman,,,,got some very nice early unpublished video of young Lulu somewhere in a bin bag!!

excellent stuff! sounds like a cracking good read! ;-)

send it as an email, or as a text document attached to an email, to: info@bgafd.co.uk

put 'blue remembered hills' in the subject header of your mail and what ever title you'd like it to go under when we put it up, at the top of the article itself.
