Preston is about as far South as Scottish notes are accepted. We get tons of them in Cumbria and nobody complains. Isle of Man notes are a major headeache, few places outside the ports of Liverpool and Heysham recognise them...

The Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish spend what the UK Government allocates to them (using a mechanism which consecutive Tory and Labour governments have chosen to retain).

There are various arguments as to who subsidises whom, and to what extent, but what we have is a system which the government (made up mainly of Englishmen and women) has decided upon. That's how our democracy works.

Why the hell would Scotland, Wales and/or Northern Ireland spend less than what has been allocated to them!? Do you return a percentage of your annual personal tax allowance to HMRC because you can identify some other person in the UK who seems to get a rougher deal out of the system than you?

Also worth remembering that just because the government have decided on a policy it doesn't mean you can not disagree with it. That's how our democracy should work.

Fair play on the joke - it can be hard to infer tone etc from online comments (as we all know).

As to being able to disagree with govt policy - absolutely! Disagree away as much as you like, and I wholly agree that's how our democracy should work. However, your statement the "Scots make an exception though when it comes to spending English Taxpayers money":
(i) avoids any suggestion you actually disagree with govt policy, and
(ii) instead just paints Scots (and, by extension, the Welsh and Northern Irish) as free-loaders who revel in spending English Taxpayers' Money (even though there is no such a thing - rather, tax is just money collected from taxpayers, most of whom happen to live in England, for use by HM Treasury). Countries, like people, will spend whatever they are given to spend.

Sorry, I don't want to turn this into a massive thing and apologies if my post came across as over-sensitive. I actually recognise that the Barnett formula is an issue which needs to be addressed!
