Election Campaigns - So Pathetic

You geezers (love that word) had your elections back in May of course but down under, we are heading who one in late August. What amazes me is just how corny and insulting to the intelligence these election campaign circuses are.
I'm astonished that in 2010 anyone could seriously suggest that visiting old folks homes and pre-schools, kissing babies and 'helping' some poor builder lay bricks (you can imagine the results) is going to fool anyone. I'm reminded of Saddam Husein's giant statues of himself or those wacky old communist propaganda films showing happy factory workers making happy tractors.
I wonder if there will be a quantum leap sometime soon (soon please!) much like the sexual revolution where obvious bullshit will no longer be politely tolerated. A politician who stood up and said that he couldn't fix health, defense, education, unemployment and housing without massive tax hikes would get far more respect than the current crop of habitual lairs.
