Why CAN'T you better yourself?.Example please.

Well...if you're a bit mentally slow. Some people are born as natural under achievers and they cannot help it. This should not be confused with those who are just plain bone idle

I think the more money you earn the more tax you pay. Its like the strongest should carry the weak. Not the other way round.

Well thats how logic would have it or does that actually apply here?

I pay tax through the nose on everything and not for one instance do I think poorer people should pay more.

I think thats absurd.

The terrible thing about being poor is you are always living on the breadline and enslaved to a life of debt.

Sure some have the drive and determination to better themselves. Others will just rob you and thats symptomatic of poverty and low education or pure laziness whichever the case might be

So, the poorer you are, the more tax you pay, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer, which means your tax goes up, which makes you poorer, which means you're tax goes up again, which makes you poorer...........well....you get the idea now...........................don't you?

How about we tax people on how stupid they are? The more stupid, the more tax you pay. One thing's for sure, you'd be fucked under that system. I like it.

Every goverment clobbers the poor when it comes to taxes as there is more of them its just number crunching, you rake in more revenue by taking a smaller % from the masses than by taking a bigger % from the few but the poorest always feel the most pain !sad!

If you subscribe to Gordon Gekkos comment in Wall Street (1987)

He cited the richest 5% own (I forget) something trillion dollars and money is never lost, just merely transferred

You do the math

Its not about the numbers, its about who owns the most wealth.

Besides, impose more tax on poor people they simply wont pay it because they havent got it,. So thats really a non starter

I can only think you were trying to provoke a reaction with this thread PH.

It worked! !cheers!

Scary thing about my kneejerk reaction to it is that I think rich people actually believe that.

Thats why Russia over ran the Bourgoise. Simple math. There ar emore poor people. Poor equals hungry, desperate. Kep winding them up and life as you know it will get worse I promise you.

You only have to look at crime and those roaming the streets with ASBOS to know that taxing the poor wont work thats why they are controlled en masse them with drugs and celebrity trivia and media.

Most people are so damn poor they cant better themselves trying to make do with what little they have already

"There are endless books and TV programmes that tell us that the period we have just lived through was the Age of Debt.

It was a time when debt was seen as good - an essential element of global stability. And those who said that rising debt levels were dangerous were dismissed as doom-mongers. Now they are "whistle-blowers"

These books and programmes also tell us how recently that idea - the belief that debt was good - came to dominate western societies. Only 30 years ago going into debt was portrayed as not only dangerous but morally wrong.

But what no-one has explained is why there was this sudden change?

Why did that attitude change so quickly? What drove it?

There is a really interesting new book by an economist Raghuram Rajan called Fault Lines. He argues that what led to the change was not just greedy banks, but growing social inequality in the West.

And - to put it crudely - when western governments were threatened by growing protests and dissatisfaction with this inequality, they simply bought the people off by giving them a mass of cheap money.

Raghuram Rajan has an extraordinary statistic. That if you look at the the growth in real incomes between 1976 and 2007, 58% of it went to the top 1%.

Faced with this, governments made a political choice. Rather than reform society, they removed all restrictions, gave up on their moral disapproval, and allowed a system to be created by the bankers that let everyone borrow.

It was better to give in and allow the "little people" to borrow rather than let them keep on striking and threaten social order. And what's more you could make lots of money out of it.

I am intrigued by this argument because it is the first time I have seen someone take the financial crisis and put it in a political and historical perspective.

It explains how the machinery of credit was used politically to try and manage and retain control the structure of power in the world. It was not a conspiracy, it was simply those in power taking the line of least resistance. "

Hey Sam I'm for you! I'm stupid and I HATE paying tax. A tax system that taxed the stupid heavily would suit me down to the ground.
