Edinburgh Military Tattoo

I just switched on the TV and caught most of the programme about the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. I remember going to it when I was a kid and I was bored shitless.
How age changes your perspective. Some of the spectacles from all corners of the earth were truly something to savour. I see now why it?s so hard to get a ticket to the event..
I know the bagpipes are not the favourite instrument for many people, but when you?re Scottish, the sight and sound of the massed pipe bands really gets your blood going --- or am I alone .
I really enjoyed when the pipe bands merged with the brass bands of the other regiments. Music really puts everybody on a level playing field

When I was posted to the Jock Guards in Munster the REME billets were next to the Band Room, and I can tell you, it aint fucking funny being woken up by some hairyarsed fucking piper when you've got a fucking blinding hangover.
I did eventually get to tolerate the pipes and one of the pipers became a good friend who could drink for Scotland.

My parents put me in a Pipe Band when I was young. When I graduated from the practice chanter to the Pipes, I got banished to the garage.
Bagpipes played badly are horrendous but, like most instruments, when they're played by a master it's a different story.

Sir Malcolm Sargent was once asked by a parent what instrument he would recommend her child learn.

He replied, "I would have no hesitation in recommending the bagpipes, madam. They sound exactly the same when you have finished learning them as when you start."

I was attached to the Scots Guards and they refer to themselves as the the Jock Guards and that is where I learned to refer to them as the Jock Guards. The Scots Guards are refered to as The Jocks. That is their British Army nickname. Every Regt and Corps in the British Army has a nickname. How they got their nicknames is fascinating to some of us. I suggest that you lighten up and try learning about some things before putting your size twelves in yer gob.
If you are taking the piss outta me fine, if not then fuck off.
