Chav towns..

I recently spent a long weekend in a seaside town on the east coast and found most people I met very friendly, and they were welcoming of outsiders. The place I was in relies on people from outside coming to the town, the town would die without it. All the hotels, guest houses, and the outlets in the town, get most of their income from outsiders coming to the place. Me and my pal had one awkward experience though: we were sitting on a wall having a hot dog at one point, only to be approached by two lowlifes - who made the Gallaghers on Channel 4's 'Shameless' programme look like Prince Charles and Camilla - who became agressive with us because they thought we had been staring at them.
An argument starts, where we tell them we weren't staring and that we would be grateful if they would go away. It then moves up a gear and there is lots of effing and blinding - we state again that we wish they would just sod off and leave us alone. The strangest thing was they then started saying that they are from the town and we are not and how we should leave. They inform us, rather aggressively, that the locals - like them - belong there and we - the outsiders - aren't welcome and should go back to where we came from. I don't care about someone being rude to me or swearing, it goes right over my head - I never asked for their approval so if I havent got it, who cares. The same applies to my friend. What did get me though was this 'get out of our town, get back to where you came from you outsiders' attitude - especially when you consider that all the businesses in that town rely almost solely on outsiders coming in order to keep the area going.
So this whole thing was totally non-sensical. How can a town that is heavily reliant on tourism (you only have to look at the wall-to-wall hotels and guests houses, gift shops, tea rooms, bucket and spade shops, ice cream outlets, postcard and novelty items shops, etc, that exist there, to see that) have people in it who say they would rather the outsiders don't come? Do they want their town to die? What possesses people to 'bite the hand that feeds them', if I can put it that way? Has anyone else on here ever been to a seaside town and been approached by a couple of mono-braincelled, tattoo-ed, vest and trainers wearing chavs, who tell them to 'f**k off out of our town'? Please detail your experiences below, and also try and explain why you think people would behave that way, towards the very people who keep their town going by staying there, spending money there, and so on.
