Poor DVD picture quality.

Rather than relying on Kazaa and Edonkey etc, I have been a good boy and actually bought my own porn. I choose to buy DVD rather than video, but often i find that the picture quality is much poorer than the stuff you can get for free on the net.

I am generally talking about non-main stream stuff here such as BDSM for which there is very little available on DVD. Very often the picture is just different shades of red which is horrible, or the contrast is way too high making walls or the sky, for example, shine brilliant white. One example of the latter was actually just a big tit movie so it was fairly mainstream.

Obviously complete idiots are creating DVD versions of video releases and making a complete mess of it. The packaging still looks smart and authentic, though !

It rather makes bying DVDs (especially non-mainstream) quite futile. You can get tons of whole porn movies for free on Edonkey but i wouldn't mind paying for them.

recordable dvd machines from panasonic + philipps have come
down a lot recently (?450 - ?550 sort of range).
as other manufacturers join in doubtless that trend will continue

point is though......
does anyone have any wisdom on how true the dvd-r copies are ?
ie. specifically from a mini-dv camcorder input.

thanks

Beware! Low-grade pirate copies of commercial DVD's are beginning to appear. Quite often these are not direct digital copies due to copy protection systems, rather they have been converted back to analogue and then recompressed again for DVD. Obviously this defeats the whole object of having digitally scoured program -the supposed ?digital quality? picture and the interactive menus don't work if DVDs are converted to analogue and then back to digital. As Tottywobbler points out these DVDs are usually produced by "idiots? for those who are daft enough to stand for it.

If you want 'proper DVD's' that have been properly authored and converted to MPEG-2. DVD's that support full interactivity and feature classic British shaggers then please feel free to e-mail the Officer for a sumptuously illustrated catalogue of ?UK Shags?

Hmmm,

I buy most of my porn on DVD now. Storage is much
easier that video and I generally don't encounter problems
with picture quality.

I would speculate that with 'specialty' titles, the
picture quality is the same as a video version. In other
worlds, the problem wasn't in the transfer but in the
shooting. This being your taste, you might want
to check out

assuming you are not already their number one customer!

DVD, as a format, will become obsolete in time - just
as CDs are being superceded by MP3's - but there is
still a lot of life in the format.

It's not that the links don't work - it's just that there is nothing on the end of them. Soon as I get my current backlog of DV editing and DVD authoring out of the way I may find time to create some new pages and content.

Alas Carl, I fear the "officer" has a lot of truncheons in a lot of pies, and may be ehm.... negligent in his duties towards
us mere porn mortals. It,s tough at the top.

I've had this problem with Newview, STB and an uncensored DVD from a sex shop so it is a widespread problem. Yes the menus do work on these DVDs. The DVD package looks fine but the DVD pictures are often too red or have much too high a picture contrast. I think all the DVDs i have had problems with were converted from video. Some people must be doing a shit job of converting them. I guess the situation will improve when DVD has a bigger market share relative to video and DVD recorders on PCs become standard and replace CD recorders.

Just to add that I've never encountered these problems on a video so it must be conversion problems from video. Also, as i said, one DVD with this problem was mainstream - a big tit DVD.
